Created by and with thanks to That Artsy Reader Girl! This week’s theme is one I think I’ve done before–but that might just be me having animals on the brain, or that YA snake still living rent-free in my head… (If you know, you just know.)
.

1. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
When I think of animals on book covers, I think of that infamous snake, who just seemed to make it onto every fantasy cover released around that time…
2. The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
… including this one. That thing just got around.

3. The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart
A ceramic frog is still a frog. There’s also a tiny penguin and a marshmallow snowman on later covers. They’re understated and adorable.
4. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
I know it’s only a wing, not the whole animal, but I feel like even part of a Crow is worth more than most other things altogether, you know?

5. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Ending on two animals for the price of one!
.
What cover trend or feature draws you in every time?
I completely forgot about Ninth Houses’s snake! Otherwise it probably would have made my list this week, too.

Oh man, that YA snake… I wonder if we could have made our lists this week with covers ONLY featuring that one snake?

You know, I did have the temptation to try, given the first two on my list! But the ceramic frog was too cute to miss.

I love that you pointed out that infamous snake image! I don’t think I realized that it is a Thing in YA until you pointed it out but I went “Ah, yes, I understand this.” XD

Oh, I know about the YA snake. Does it really have to be on every single fantasy book cover?

Hahaha it made its way around a lot of them for sure!
