NaNoWriMo 2022: Results

This year has been HUGE for me, writing-wise.

Last December 1st, I made the radical decision to infuse my 2022 with more joy. I’d just finished a month of solid joy with my 13th consecutive November National Novel Writing Month, and I wondered–why am I not doing this several times a year?! So, because I can’t have an idea without committing EVERYTHING to it, I planned my own NaNoWriMos for March and July 2022–but with the goal of writing 30,000 words, not 50,000 words, because I’m not a complete masochist. They were so much fun, and really successful (you can see the results of the first here, and the second here).

Well, having written over 60,000 words already this year wasn’t going to stop me trying my best in the official NaNoWriMo. In fact, it turned out to have warmed me up, because I beat my previous NaNoWriMo word count record by a very considerable amount…

A running theme is that this statistic surprises me every time. I feel like I’m definitely not reading as much YA as I used to, but apparently, I’m still very much in love with writing it!

On the other hand, I’m not surprised by this one. I get nostalgic for NaNoWriMo every year, because autumn seems to reunite me with old WIPs set in the season–and it’s always reflected in my NaNo stats. Of the six WIPs I visited this NaNoWriMo (though yes, I understand that’s not strictly within official NaNo rules), two of them are old WriMo favourites–and theirs are the biggest chunks on the chart.

Weekly Word Count

I feel like I can trace my NaNoWriMo journey here! Especially as I look at week 3: the week I hit the 50,000 word target and decided to just keep going! Which leads me to…

Word Count

My overall NaNoWriMo 2022 word count was way beyond anything I could have dreamed up in October, inspired by a mid-month madness to hit the 50,000 word–and then try to double it. And I managed!! Finally, the number that matters the most–my NaNoWriMo 2022 total word count was, drum roll…

I can’t believe the writing year I’ve had–and now I’m off to keep that momentum going, and start editing! How was your NaNoWriMo?
