The Never Have I Ever Tag: Bookish Edition

What’s this?! A tag?!

I don’t remember the last time I did a tag, but when the brilliant Sassy Library Fox tagged me in this one, prefaced with an admission on how belated a tag it was, I had a flood of guilt for not keeping up with my own tag replies. So here we go! (And thank you, The Sassy Library Fox–for the tag, and your super-detailed and fun reviews, which everyone should check out here!)

.

The Rules

  1. Link back to the original creator: Madame Writer
  2. Link back to the person who tagged you.
  3. Answer all prompts.
  4. Add one more prompt of your own.
  5. Tag at least five people.
  6. Don’t lie!
  7. Have fun.

The Prompts

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Read a later book in a series before the first
Sort of? I read Six of Crows before Shadow and Bone, but I think I get away with that as they’re not *strictly* sequels, even if they are in the same universe!

.

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Burned a book
Oh my God, never. What heathen would?!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Gone into a shop to buy one book and come out with many more…
Ha! Who hasn’t?!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Loved a book when I was younger and hated it when I was older
“Hate” is a strong word, and reading tastes change with age…

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Read a book I knew I’d hate
Again, “hate” is a strong word, but I’ve read books I knew I wouldn’t enjoy. When is it knowledge, and when does it become a self-fulfilling prophecy?

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Wrote a fanfiction about my favourite book
Oh, for sure. But never have I ever published it!

.

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Dressed up as my favourite literary characters
Several times. Even more if you count characters who’ve had graphic novel/comic arcs!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Hated a book by an author I love
“Hate” is a strong word…

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Skim read a book
Have. Bringing us back to the whole self-fulfilling prophecy of books I knew I wouldn’t really enjoy!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Pretended to read a book when I haven’t
I want to say never, but I think there were probably times in uni when I was so sick of people trying to lord their literary tastes over my commercial ones (like that’s anything special), I wound up pretending to have read literary books just to ‘prove’ I liked my commercial ones more. I like to win an argument!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Read a book without a dust cover
Have. But they’re so much better with!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Had a book boyfriend/girlfriend
Have, a hundred times over. Look, I struggle to read anything without at least a romantic subplot–and it’s even more fun when it involves a book boyfriend!

.

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Picked up a book based on the cover alone
Have. Who hasn’t?

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Read the end of a book before the beginning
Probably. I’ve definitely read the ending before finishing a book, and I have little enough patience that I’ve probably read the ending before the beginning, at some point…

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Read a history or anthropology book for fun
Never. But non-fiction really isn’t my thing!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Participated in a readathon
Have. They’re a blast!

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Bought multiple books in a series before starting it
Have. Sometimes it’s a relief, because it means I don’t have to slow down finishing the first in case the next is too far away! (Which is exactly how I read The Mortal Instruments.)

.

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Filled up an entire bookshelf and had to have stacks of books balanced precariously throughout various rooms
Never. But mostly because I’m an organisation freak and the thought of book piles gives me hives.

The Sassy Library Fox’s Question

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Hurt a book (e.g. accidentally spilled ice cream or coffee on it, dog-eared a book, etc.)
🤫

My Question:

NEVER HAVE I EVER: Made art inspired by a book I loved
Have. Bookmarks, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, pens, polymer clay ornaments, hair bows, the list goes on…

  1. I always love reading this tag! Though you do realize I want that fanfiction now, don’t you? 😁 Particularly since you paired that question with Twilight funko-pops. I AM INSANELY CURIOUS NOW!!

Also, thank you so much for tagging me! 🥰 Although I’m afraid I’ve already done this one and probably don’t have all that much to add, since I already revealed all of my blasphemous secrets in the last version… However, there are a couple of new questions here that I haven’t answered, so maybe I’ll take this as an excuse to do a Part II sometime! 🤗

    1. 🤣🤣 trust me, the fanfiction didn’t get far enough to be remotely interesting to read! There’s a reason it was paired with the Twilight pops, but there’s also a reason it was never published. 🤣🤣

Ahh, that’s fair enough! I’ll have to go and find your answers from when you did it before 😊 but I’d find a part two very interesting!

      1. Honestly, the reason isn’t that special–it’s that it was unfinished and also very bad. 😂😂 It entertained me on boring lunch breaks, but I would keel over of embarrassment trying to do a reaction post to it 😂😂
