Created by and with thanks to That Artsy Reader! This week’s theme is surprisingly prevalent in thrillers, as it turns out…
.
1. One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus
Honestly, they had me at the elevator pitch: The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars. Who else is excited for the upcoming TV adaptation?
2. Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus
I haven’t read this one yet, but doesn’t the sheer number of numbers on that cover make it perfect for this prompt?
3. Twelve by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I loved the series, and I love when authors go back and revisit their characters years on into their lives. Thirteen, anyone? Please?
4. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Do we count this as a thriller? It’s thrilling to me…
And finally, one non-thriller:
5. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
God, I love everything about this book–but I already said why here!
.
Why do you think so many thrillers use numbers in their titles?
I didn’t know there was a sequel to One of Us Is Lying!

Yes! I think there may be a third on the way, too?

I need to get to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. True Confession: I keep getting it confused with The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle! I think I want to read them both, though, so it’s all good.
My list is here—https://fiftytwo.blog/2021/09/14/ttt-ten-books-with-numbers-in-the-title/

Hahaha, honestly before I’d read Evelyn Hugo, same! I want to read Evelyn Hardcastle too.

A lot of mysteries and thrillers have been showing up in TTT posts this week! I couldn’t guess at why numbers show up in so many thriller titles, though.

Ha, I noticed the same! Maybe there’s some tension/suspension in counting?!

Could be! 😀

Authors revisiting their characters later is my absolute favorite thing, and yet so rare! (I understand it can be tough to do in a satisfying way, but when you succeed…whew)

Yes! Even if it’s pure fan service, I am 100% for it.

That’s a very good question, and I really don’t know. They do the same in French, as it shows on my lists – most are thrillers as well: https://wordsandpeace.com/2021/09/14/top-ten-book-titles-with-numbers-in-them-french-version/

It’s an interesting pattern to spot, though!

I loved Evelyn Hugo, still can’t decide whether I prefer it to Daisy Jones or not though!

I love thrillers, but I’ve actually only read one of these. I’ll have to check out some of the others on your list.
Happy TTT!

Twelve is a really fun companion novella! Definitely recommend it if you’ve read the rest of the series 🙂

They really are. And Evelyn Hugo was definitely one of the best, if not the best, books I read last year! It was amazing.
