Top Ten Tuesday: (Five) Most Recent Reads

Created by and with thanks to That Artsy Reader! This week’s post is a love letter to the March Madness I ran this year, where my blog and Instagram followers picked my April TBR. A risky experiment; let’s see how it paid off!

1. Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
This is my current read: I’ve been anticipating it for over a year, and it is not disappointing! More on this in a Gush to come…

2. You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
The internet and book blogosphere has exhausted itself singing the praises of this one, so as with my April wrap-up, all I’ve got to say is that Liz and Mack are adorable!

3. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
I almost feel like this is an Austen cult classic, and I find that–and the story behind the book–fascinating. I did enjoy it, and it was so nice to delve back into Gothic fiction, in any capacity. But if we’re talking Austen favourites… Will anything beat Pride and Prejudice? Not this!

4. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Oh, Oreos and Golden Retrievers and all that’s good in this world, I cannot think of enough gushing things to say about Simon. It has everything I love: musical theatre, Goldens, Oreos, snark, adorkable friendship ensembles, music, mysterious romantic identities, and romance so fluffy I have to hug the book before I put it back down. I don’t understand what took me so long to read it–I loved it.

5. Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo
Woopmh, this one had some baggage to it, with two and a half series’ worth of anticipation–I’m still trying to get my head around it! You can read all my gushing thoughts here!

Those are my five most recent reads! What are yours?

      1. Thank you! They really are, I haven’t had one in ages and I thought I’d escaped the pandemic reading slump that everyone else fell into last year but apparently I just got it later!

  1. Some excellent choices here! I’m a bit behind with Cassie Clare books but I do intend to read this series eventually. It seems to be getting really good reports. I read Simon vs years ago and really loved it and I can’t wait to get to Rule of Wolves. Have to read King of Scars first though. And maybe finish 2&3 in Shadow and Bone, so I you know, actually know Nikolai lol. His small appearance in CK wasn’t really enough. I really want to read You Should See Me In A Crown too

    1. I really like the Shadowhunters books, but I can see how they’re an intimidating lot to get in to! I loved Simon, massively excited to read Leah now! Oh my god, Shadow and Bone opens right up when Nikolai comes in, I think he’s my favourite of the trilogy—I can’t wait to see him in the show! I hope you manage to read them all and you enjoy them when you do ☺️
