1. Hedwig from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
I might not approve of it, but there’s a reason a generation of kids talked their parents into buying them pet owls.

2. Fat Louie from the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot
The rhinestoned collar, the sock eating, the five-page instructions on how to care for him while Mia was in Genovia… Fat Louie is a spoiled prince and I love it.

3. Salem from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (and better yet, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) by Sarah Rees Brennan
He’s just the ultimate cat, isn’t he? (And can we talk about that penultimate episode in the Netflix show? GENIUS.)

4. Dexter from Bad to the Bone by Jeri Smith-Ready
Vampire dog. I’ll say no more.

5. Jamie Fox Pickle from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
I want Kitty to name all of the pets in all of the books from now on.
