March Madness: Results!

So this year, rather than any daunting reading challenge, I’ve been participating in the 5-4-3-2-1 challenge; where you choose five categories/genres, then read 5/4/3/2/1 books within each allocated one. (I didn’t create this; I just saw it making the rounds on Bookstagram and thought it’d be fun. If you know who did create it, please let me know so I can credit them!)

For me, the challenge looks like this: 5 books from my backlist (that I’ve owned for more than two years but are unread); 4 romances; 3 fantasies; and 2 classics (of my own loose definition). I’ve already read my 1 horror (Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo; gush here). To make me accountable for making headway, and get into the spirit of March Madness in a way I can be interested, I thought I’d do a version of March Madness: my followers choose my April TBR!

So, in April, I’ll read at least four books, all chosen by my blog and Instagram followers, each within a category of my challenge! Over the last several Fridays, you’ve been voting, and now I present to you: your March Madness winners, my April TBR!

On the Backlist

The Contenders:

Vampire Academy vs Unspoken; Eleanor and Park vs The Truth About Alice; Pretty Little Liars vs Graveminder; Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda vs People Like Us

I know I’ve been sleeping on this one for a long time; I’ve spoke about it in a ton of Top Ten Tuesday posts, and according to Goodreads, Simon has been on my TBR for two and a half years. Well, in April, all that changes–I’m heading to Creekwood!

The Contenders

You Should See Me in a Crown vs Maybe in Another Life; Anna K. vs The Hating Game; Royals vs The Duke and I; Tweet Cute vs Landline

Honestly, I don’t know if I’m more excited to read this because it sounds delightful, because it sounds entirely up my street, or just because I’ve got FOMO from everyone blogging about it. Why choose?!

The Contenders

Throne of Glass vs A Court of Thorns and Roses; Chain of Iron vs Red Queen; The Wicked Deep vs The Sookie Stackhouse Companion; The Belles vs Path of Night

Let me let you in on a secret: I’ve been rooting for Chain of Iron to win all along. I was so worried it wouldn’t, and I’d have to wait until May to read it. Thank you for voting for it!

The Contenders:

Northanger Abbey vs Mansfield Park; Jane Eyre vs Wuthering Heights; Coriolanus vs Antony and Cleopatra; The Taming of the Shrew vs The Tempest

Can we give a moment of praise for what I considered the novel underdog? I thought there was no way either lesser-loved Austen would win over either mammoth Bronte–but the response Northanger has blown me away. This thing is adored. I can’t wait to read it!

So here’s my April TBR!

Did any of your favourites win? Look out for some thoughts on the winners in May!
