Top Ten Tuesday: (Five) New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2020

Created by and with thanks toΒ That Artsy Reader! Another bout of bookworm guilt this Tuesday: I actually only read one new-to-me author in 2020, and I didn’t enjoy their book. πŸ˜… Instead, here are five authors who entered my radar in 2020, but whose books I somehow didn’t get around to…

1. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
In my defence, I didn’t mean to miss this one–I just didn’t happen to get it for Christmas, which is when I tend to get books! It’s still very much on my TBR–I can’t wait to see what the hype is about!

2. The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
I was SO excited for this–the cover, the set up, the Kindle sample–and then I heard a few things about it that put me off slightly, and now I’m not sure I should read it. If you have, what was your verdict?

3. You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
Now THIS one I got for Christmas, and I am SO excited to finally right the wrong of not having read it, very soon!

4. Anna K. by Jenny Lee
This one’s all on me. I had every intention of reading it in a summer of romance reads, and then… Didn’t. Summer 2020 was an apocalypse of its own, so I’m excused, right?

5. Tweet Cute by Emma Lord
It seems like there’s a real booksphere love-hate relationship with this one, so I wanted to wait until the biggest hype was over, when I could read it with fresh eyes. It looks cute, though!

Which new authors did you miss in 2020–or who was your favourite?

  1. You know what? I don’t feel so bad now, because I meant to read almost all of these, too, and just … didn’t. xD I’ve heard that Southern Book Club’s a little … heavy on the horror? Which isn’t usually something I read, especially if it involves any gore, but I’m still really looking forward to giving it a try. I’ve had so many people tell me how good it is. I’m definitely looking forward to Mexican Gothic, too!

    Here’s my TTT post.

    1. Hahahaha something about knowing other people have gone through the same with the same books makes me feel better about myself, too! I think I heard that the gore and horror about Southern too, but I’m sure it was more to do with trigger warnings I now can’t remember :/ I’ve heard so many good things about MG, though!

  2. I was so excited for Tweet Cute and then somehow I didn’t end up reading it in 2020 either πŸ˜‚ Same goes for Mexican Gothic although I’m honestly a bit scared to read it cos I’m The Ultimate Chickenℒ️! I hope you get around to these in 2021 and enjoy them 😊

  3. Brilliant list! I love tweet cute and I’ve always wanted to try mexican gothic (although they seem a little daunting!). I seem to be really bad at following the ttt prompts lol so this week I tried top ten bookish things that annoy me. Although there could have been SO MANY MORE 😫 Here’s my post in case you’re interested πŸ™‚ https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2021/01/26/ttt-26-1-top-ten-bookish-things-i-hate/
